NATIONAL AIDS MARATHON TRAINING PROGRAM JOB DESCRIPTION

The National AIDS Marathon Running Coach provides direction, advice, support and encouragement to participants of the Training Program. During the 26-week period from May 4 to October 28, this program will train individuals to complete either the Marine Corps Marathon, the Baltimore Marathon, or the Dublin Marathon while raising millions of dollars for Whitman Walker Clinic in Washington, D.C., the leading provider of HIV/AIDS services in the United States.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES OF RUNNING COACH · Supervision and administration of running site for approximately 200+ runners. · Impart methodology of the National AIDS Marathon Training Program and the Galloway Program. · Coordinate water distribution and water stop locations. · Plan and mark a running course that accurately reflects the distance being covered each weekend. · Supervise Site Assistants and site administration duties and responsibilities, i.e. participant check-in, faxing roster to the AIDS Marathon office, coordination of volunteers, etc. · Provide coaching and instruction of proper running technique, injury prevention, nutrition, hydration, and other topics as outlined by the AIDS Marathon Training Program. · Coordinate formation of Pace Groups and assist participants in identifying an appropriate Pace Group for their individual level of experience and conditioning. · Mandatory attendance at all coaching development sessions (April 13, April 14, April 29). · Mandatory attendance at the AIDS Marathon Fitness Seminar (May 11), and monthly coaches meetings.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED · Completion of one or more marathons. · Understanding and instruction of the Galloway Training Program. · Display positive leadership as well as organizational and administrative skills. · Enthusiastic personality and the ability to motivate, educate, and manage participants and staff. · Strong communication skills and the ability to present information to large groups. · Ability to run, bike or otherwise patrol the distance of the course each weekend. · Must have a strong commitment to the fight against AIDS.
