Solution for Itchiness

Hi, I am planning to start running and have been interested in running for awhile, but for some unknown reason my legs start to really itch when I run. I have tried varying different factors to see what the cause of the itchiness is. For example, I tried hot and cold weather, shorts vs. pants, etc.....and I have not found anything that specifically caused the itchiness. I do have allergies and sometimes my legs would itch just when walking. My legs become so itchy that I can not continue to run because I am so consumed with scratching. The itchiness stops after a few minutes when I sit down. I have had people suggest taking allergy pills and rubbing my legs down with hydro-coprtisone, which I have yet to try. Does anyone else have this problem and/or a solution?
