Every time I see someone starting to run it make my heart jump up and down. Congratulations on your decision to start running. Besides the advise you already received I just wanted to add the fact that just run for the joy of running. Walk/run if you have to, we all do in the beginning. The only time you run fast is when racing, run slowly all the time, except one time a week when you may want to run at a little faster pace on your way back. Set YOUR own routine, whatever is best for you to keep running. I ran marathons and I follow the same tips above. I also just run every other day due to schedule and it seems like it helps me to stay out of trouble as far as injury is concerned. A 5k goal is an excellent goal. Enjoy the journey and keep us posted.
