I'm up for the challenge... now what?

It's been a few years coming.... now I am mentally ready.

Three years ago I had our twins, immediately following their birth my health went downhill, at an unheard of pace! My heart and kidneys were shutting down, the doctors thought Lupus, then not. In the end it turns out I have Addisons- an adrenal gland condition. Things are well taken care of now, and I feel alot better then I ever had. My workouts are easier and I am seeing results like I couldn't have imagined. In this timeframe my youngest son was diagnosed with Autism and my oldest son (7) with Barretts Esophagus, a precancerous condition that has been one heck of a fight for us. I've (willingly) given up my career to be home with our children.

I'm often mentally tired, but seem to work in short runs and daily workouts.

I've talked alot about running my first race, well, I've talked for years and years. Early this year I considered it, but never jumped on the opportunity.

Today I found that the Denver Marathon is in mid October and offers a half marathon.

I want to do a half marathon. I NEED to do this, more so to prove to me, that somethings ARE within my control.

Only a number of times in the last month I've ran, on the treadmill, 6 miles, and I am averaging about 9.5 minutes per mile. That isn't pushing it, I know I could put more speed OR distance into it, but not both right now.

But honestly, that is getting easier by the day....

I don't have the funds to sign up for these trainings that they offer. And really, novice doesn't begin to explain my experience... The complete some sort of person hygiene regime on a daily basis before the kids get up and start their demands!

How do I truely start? My husband is very interested in training for the half marathon too. He likes to run, however his claim to fame is riding his bike to work, one way 18 miles and then working a full 24 hour shift at the firehouse, and riding home again- 18 miles!! So, he's got endurance down... just in the form of peddling....

Where do we start together?

Thanks for reading my novel!!

Deanna
