I am getting lapidus bunion surgery on June 13th. I recently graduated from college where I ran for 4 years, and I would also like to know how long after the surgery before it is possible to exercise. I know I am going to go crazy if I am inactive for so long! My doctor claims I will be able to use a stationary bike after 2-3 weeks (after the cast is removed and a walking boot is given) but I am seriously questioning whether he is correct or if it will actually take longer. He also claims that the surgery will actually correct my faulty running mechanics (I tend to run on my toes, placing excess stress on my calves) and improve my running ability. If I did not get the surgery, I would have arthritis in the big toe in a matter of years since my bunions are so bad. I am also getting a calf tendon lengthening procedure done at the same time. If you want, I can send you an update after the surgery to let you know how it goes. I hope it heals fast, especially since I need to get a job..
