I don't really know what the deal is with the treadmills, but I have to do a 13 miler at 7:24 pace this weekend and I don't think that I could keep up the pace on my treadmill but can do it just fine outside (providing there's good footing). The high here starting Saturday is like, 4 degrees, so I either have to squeeze it in outside on Friday or resign myself to an hour and a half at breakneck speed on my treadmill on Saturday. I'll take the former! My old treadmill was the best... it was calibrated wrong in the other direction (which I didn't know at the time) and I would be knocking out sub 7 minute miles with no problem on 6 mile runs. Haha! I should have known better... As far as training is concerned, it's my emotional, social, physical and mental outlet. Most of my best friends are runners and it's hang out time with them. My kids are little and I need that outlet to keep me sane and patient with them. I've also been a competitor my whole life (tennis before running) and it's a part of who I am. Training, pushing myself and going after goals are a strong part of my personality. So there you go... I can't help it :) Final thoughts on Boston's Varsity: I was thinking about it the other day and realized that had I dipped under 3:30 for my qualifying time and made it into the first wave that there would be a very good chance that I would be one of the LAST runners to cross the line for wave 1. SCARY! However, that won't stop me from trying for next year :)
