Once you've run your marathon, if you take the typical recovery time, you have a few weeks to enjoy without longer runs. If you give blook relatively soon after the marathon, you are unlikely to impair your training efforts for anything else.
At some level, giving blood has lots of similarities to training well. If you plot out your schedule in advance to work the various efforts in, you can do a lot more than if you don't plan.
