I agree with Annie's "interesting" comment.
Are we making too much to do about nothing?
I run with several doctors (who all use energy bars like I do). What is interesting is that they all agree that there is no conclusive evidence that suggests that vitamins increase performance. So to Scott's earlier point - What's the difference between eating a powerbar or candy? As far as your body is concerned - probably nothing.
I think what is more important is to eat enough to make up for what you burn while running, eat a balanced diet and get plenty of rest.
Having said all that - I eat all sorts of Powerbars and Met Rx products. A 340 calorie Met Rx product "feels better" that a 270 calorie Snickers bar.
