I started my weightloss journey at the end of 2005 somewhere north of 165 (afraid to look at scale syndrome). (I'm 5'6".) I lost at least 20 lbs. on a pretty calorie-restricted diet - not sure how many I was taking in but it was enough to be hungry almost all the time. Everything worked out fine until I started heavy training last summer, I had hoped to run the race at 140 but once I was putting in the big miles, I found I couldn't let my food intake drop low enough to lose any more weight. I ran the race at 144 and was very happy with that. This year I am planning to get down to 140 before starting to train for another fall marathon, but the weightloss is going to happen before the big training starts again.
One thing I did really focus on in nutrition and training was to try to make every single calorie count. Even when snacking, I tried to snack on nutritious foods rather than junk, and I also tried to make sure I made good food choices involving whole grains, lean proteins, etc.
