If you are having pain in your lower shin its probably due to few factors such as increased mileage, running on new terrain, old/new sneakers. Do you have pain close to the bone (tibia) and does it hurt to just walk? Shin splints are a common overuse injury that can eventually lead to a stress fracture. If you jump up and down on one foot - does that increase your pain. I am a certified active release (ART) provider and I would highly recommend the treatment for any overuse condition such as shin splints. It helps soft tissue/overuse injuries by breaking up the scar tissue that forms from repetitive motion especially in runners! You need to take a look why your overloading that area and how to correct through treatments, stretching and exercise. You can check out the website www.activerelease.com to find a provider near you.
