First, you are absolutely correct in another post that I dislike training distances of much more than 10 miles! Thanks for noticing! :-)
As for the food, could it be one of two things?
1. The weight gain is bad. I find for myself that I run marathons at a 5-6 pound lower weight than my normal weight. So perhaps if one has trained hard and gotten down to marathon weight, there is no purpose in massive eating during the last three days.
2. It is too late to make a difference. Perhaps the experts think, and I would agree, that there is little that one can do in the last three days that would be beneficial.
