Hey, have you checked out the Hash House Harriers? I used to run with them when I was in DC. Not sure how old you are, what you're like, etc. but the Hash's motto is "a drinking group with a running problem." The short story is that a "hare" lays down a trail that has all sorts of tricks and traps to it, the "pack" then tries to figure it out (it always ends at beer and food, usually there is a nominal "running fee"). The idea is that a really good hare can get the "front runners" to come in about the same time as the "back of the pack" (because the front runners "mark" all the false trails so the back of the pack can just run straight through). This can mean a front runner puts in 10 miles or more while the back does 4 or so. It's social, and just a gas. There were so many hashes in the DC area (Baltimore; Full Moon; Northern VA; etc.) that you actually could hash every day of the week -- and usually they start on or near Metro stops. Anyway -- just a thought. The Hash Hotline for DC is PUDJAM0 (that's a zero) -- if you are inclined to join (this obviously assumes you're 21, etc. ) you should probably read up on the Hash a little on the Internet, as it's an old, international, slightly wacky "club." I've hashed throughout the world (Philippines; Europe; Mexico; Thailand; all thru the US; Canada; etc) and once you're part of a hash, you also generally are part of an "underground network" that will put you up for free if you are visiting, etc. Anyway -- just a thought. I miss the DC Hash -- I live in the sticks here and so it's hard to get to the city (over an hour's drive) to get to any hash events in SF. Regards, V
