Just want to say thanks for starting this thread. I find this site/board very informative and inspiring.
I'm training for DC in March and it will be my first marathon. I've always wanted to run one, and post-Sept. 11, I think I've realized that you should really go out and start working towards many things on your "Life To-Do" list. (sorry for preface).
Training has been going well. I had been running most of the summer, but not w/ a real plan or goals. Now my long runs are up to 14 miles. The problems I've been experiencing have been a bit unexpected as I'm new at this (hydrating on long runs, recovery, and the ever-emabarassing nipple abraison). I've solved all but the recovery. Basically, I can't run on Mondays after a long run on Sun. But I feel okay on Tues. (5miles) and by Thurs. I feel very good. Ran a fast (for me) 6.5 this morning. And at this point I'm chomping at the bit for Sundays to roll around.
The marathon is the short term goal. But I'm running to get/stay in shape, have fun, challenge myself, and hopefully meet some nice people along the way.
I feel as it gets colder in DC in the coming weeks & months new challenges will arise, but I can't wait. The ride so far has been fun. I've found that runners tend to be very nice, helpful and considerate.
Thanks everyone- hopefully we'll see you on the road.
DT
