I'm a first timer too... for the second time. My first attmept training for a marathon was interrupted by an annoying IT band injury. I was scheduled to run Detroit in October, but had to back out. I'm shooting for Detroit (or perhaps Chicago) for next October. I wish I could say that I was back running comfortable. Still hesitant. I run 3 times per week about 3-4 miles each time and I try to run 5-6 on Saturday. This past week I didn't keep to that so well. I did run 4.5 on Monday and felt great! First time in quite a while that the knee didn't hurt. I'm just trying to maintain some running base so I can (when I feel less hesitant) begin training for a half marathon in May. Glad to read other first timers trials and tribulations. It's keeping me motivated.
