I have come up with an idea to start a grass roots effort to help children who need the services of Golisano Childrens Hospital in Rochester, NY. I have named this Hope in Motion. I have pledged to run a race a month in the name of the children who the Hospital helps. The distances of the races vary (5k, 10k, 5 miles, ½ marathon, and full marathon). I have chosen a tentative schedule of the races that I propose to run. The idea behind this is to raise awareness of the kinds of items the children and their families like to have at their disposal while in the hospital, as well as to make some money for different programs at the hospital. I also have a wish list that was sent to me from the Hospital. I am a teacher and my students are also getting involved. They are planning a Family Festival to be held in June. There will be a 5k run, food booths, booths for area service providers (Golisano Childrens Hospital and other providers who work to keep our kids healthy). For this we definitely need volunteers and if anyone has a connection to a local race director who can help with the race planning that would be great. We already have had a local Girl Scout Troop offer to help. I have already run one 5k with no publicity because all of this was just beginning. Let me tell you that just knowing what was at stake (basically running for kids who would love to be out there running themselves) was a great boost.
