Another thing you might want to try out is the Hash House Harriers. I ran with them all the time when I lived in VA -- their motto is they are a "drinking group with a running problem." A "hare" sets out a trail, that has lots of false turns, etc. (the idea being that the "better" runners run out and figure out all the "detours" and then mark the path so the slower runners can just run straight -- everyone basically coming into the "end" together). They always end at beer, pizza, etc. The group in DC is super, and you can actually pick up a Hash almost every day of the week. There were ones in No Cal, out in MD, a "Full Moon Hash", the DC Hash, etc. I hashed all over the world -- which is always great fun. Anyway -- if you are a "fun" kinda person who doesn't mind beer and being with a group of people that are ... slightly bizarre ... the hash is a wonderful and fun way to get runs in (and then also to actually see the world, if you like -- once you become a "Hasher" if you travel anywhere, you can usually bunk up for free with fellow "Hashers").
If it's the same, the Hash Hotline in DC used to be 202-PUD-JAM-0 (that's a zero). It had all the schedules for all the local hashes.
Anyway -- just a thought.
