I run with the bottle in one of those "specially" designed fanny packs. Nice little pockets for keys and ID as well. I like to run with as little extras as possible. I thought it would be difficult at first, but found that once I got the pack adjusted properly I hardly noticed it. If it is too loose, it flops around on your back - rather quite annoying. If it is too tight, it feels difficult to breathe. The only problem I have trouble with now is what do I do when my bottle runs dry? Not too many water fountains where I run.
