As Tim describes, plantar faciitis is often a very slow injury to shake. So it's quite common for antsy runners to come back too soon and continually aggravate the injury.

One additional thought, be sure to consider your everyday footwear. I, for one, used to spend my non-running time in boat shoes which offered woeful arch support. I'm certain that habit weakened my arch over time, and marathon training did the rest of the damage. Hindsight is wonderful, isn't it?
