If you are asking because you have had prior problems with your patellar tendon, or with runner's knee, or IT band, (or are currently having a problem)then they are worth a try, along with good shoes, an arch support like the Superfeet orthotics, stretching, strengthening, care in choice of running surfaces, terrain, and road cants, ice and anti-inflammatories. I know runners who swear by them - you can tell in the summer because when they are not running and don't have it on, there is a tell-tale untanned band of skin around their knee. However, I have never tried one myself.

Most importantly, don't think that if you see it in runner's world, it must be for you. If you have not had a knee problem, don't use these devices to try to prevent a problem.
