Well, you can just about add an hour to Steve's goals to get mine. :-)
What usually happens is this: I have all sorts of dreams of what it would "be great to do", but then on race day I let my heart rate monitor set my early pace.
Miles 15-23 I usually take it a mile at a time and aim for 8:1X-8:2X per, and in the last three my goal is "NO NINES".
So, for me, it is a series of 1-mile goals.
