I am a first time marathoner as well. I have only been running a few years - not 10K or 10M. I've gotten up to running 3 miles regularly. I just wanted to pass a few things on that I was told - First - Good Luck! Next - join a running club - they typically have coaches available for questions, and training suggestions. I also was talking with a group of people at work and it turns out several of them are running coaches - you just never know, I would start talking to everyone about it. One of the coaches said to start weight lifting in the muscles from the shoulders to the knees. You don't have to do too much just 15-30 minutes 3 times a week. He said it would help you keep your body upwards rather than pulling you down when you get tired.
I don't know what to say about the cold - I run at different times of a day. My schedule is very caotic - so I tend to run when I can fit it into my schedule for that day.
Good luck with everything - hope it all goes well. Keep in touch and let me know how you are doing - I'm here if you need support.
