Patti, my major mistakes have been to not give myself enough time off afterward.
It sounds as if you are doing the right thing; let that tired, aching body recover! Personally, what I did this summer was to switch from running to swimming (I still ran some) and focused on a long distance swim (5K) for the next few months.
So, right now, for you, "less is more". :-)
(you might try reading a book such as "the Ultimate Guide to marathons" )
