Make sure if you watch the marathon on 1st Avenue, that you watch from the west side of the street. This way you can escape and walk on over to Central Park. A good place is 1st Ave. & 86th St. Then you can walk to the park and there is an entrance at 85th St. and get into the park easily with no hassles. My family has done this for a couple of years.
