The *idea* for the Washington DC Marathon is all well and good-- running through the whole city is certainly preferable to the Marine Corps Marathon's odious Crystal City & Pentagon loops. But can you believe the $85 entry fee? This is more expensive than Marine Corps, Boston, Chicago, etc. And yet this race hasn't even been held before!
Supporting a marathon with an $85 entry fee is like saying to the organizers of every other marathon out there, "Hey! Whatever entry fees you charge, I'll pay it!" And marathon entry fees everywhere will jump that much more.
If you're looking for a mid-Atlantic marathon to do, give your support to one of the smaller, less expensive races. Try the Washington's Birthday Marathon (2/17, Greenbelt, MD)... or the B&A Trail Marathon (3/3, Severna Park, MD)... or the Virginia Creeper Marathon (3/10, Abingdon, VA)... or the Shamrock Sportsfest Marathon (3/16, Virginia Beach, VA)... or the Pittsburgh Marathon (5/5, Pittsburgh, PA).
