I enjoy the hot tub after a marathon. My post-marathon routine is: right after the marathon, I squat slowly next to a pole, so I cna use the pole to help myself up! do this 3 - 4 times. hot tub while slowly gently stretching in the water. walking (or touring around) depending on location that afternoon. Another hot tub that night if possible. run 5 miles the following day another hot tub ! !

I find that cold water makes my muscles seize and cramp!

I also think that the runnnig the next day is the most important factor in my recovery. Also, the squats after the race! Many times the hot tub is not available.

My theory is that the mot water opens the blood vessels, and the circulation helps clear the lactic acid (I am not a doctor or PT. Just a marathoner who has done 17 marathons in 1 year; and 122 marathons overall.

experiment, and find what works best for you.

Marty
