Your PT friend was right about not using a hot tub after a marathon or long run. IT will increase the muscle soreness and damage. It does this because the heat increases the vasodilation, which increases the amount of swelling.What you want to do is sit in a bath tub of cold water, about 60 degrees within 12 hours after the race. That will decrease the soreness and swelling.
