Does anyone know the effects of carbonated beverages on training and racing? Years ago when I was on my HS X-country team our coach always made us quit drinking all soda, and claimed that it slowed us down. 20 years later I haven't really seen any literature on the subject, but my running partner claims that one diet coke a day can't hurt you. I understand obviously that soda is generally bad anyway you look at it, but I must admit I'm addicted to my Diet Coke but I'm addicted to running too and would like to post better times. Any input on this subject would be greatly appreciated. I have a marathon 3 days away and of course had my diet coke today. THanks, Melanie
