I just ran my 5th marathon and was struck, yet again, with a bad case od calf cramps with about 8 k to go....
I have run into this problem now in most of the longer races that I have taken part in (i.e. anything > 21 km).
For This last race (the Mississauga Marathon) I carried and drank eLoad, and I have been stretching and strengthening my calf muscles for over a year.
Although the race produced a personal best, and the cramping didn't come full-force until later than in the race than 'normal', they still hindered me in my results and I am now at the point where I'm a tad 'freaked-out' and just assume it is going to happen at every race.
