RnR girl, I think that you mean the "median". The "mode" is the most frequently occuring score, which is probably not very meaningful in your situation.

I am someone who has done some statistical analysis of various marathons; the median time (that is, the time for which half of the runners finish before, half after) for men in just under 4 hours in most marathons; a few minutes slower than that in the mega-marathons.

In fact, to see how I did at a marathon, I calculate the standard deviation and give myself a standard "z-score". :-)
