One of the things that attracted me to road racing was that it is a race against the clock. Each second, each minute (hopefully!) that I improve my time, is another race that I have won. I placed (3rd) in my age group for the first time in 3 years of running. It was a neat experience, but I was more excited because I ran my personal best then I was with placing.
