Hi, I recommend a PowerBar or a PureProtein Bar about 45 minutes before you run.

You could take one with you and eat a small amount of it while you run. Sometimes I have to eat something in the middle of a long run to be able to have enough energy.

That's good with the oatmeal, I'd also suggest bananas or toast with peanut butter. Peanut butter or peanuts (you can also bring some nuts along with you for the run) always help me.

If you cramp up easily when you eat, just eat a couple small bites along the way, one bite at a time, probably like what you do with water. I never have a problem eating about half a powerbar throughout a long run. Of course, water and gatorade help keep me energized as well, and for some reason, jolly ranchers! I think it's the sugar rush jolt. :)
