I am dealing with the same issues of peroneal tendonitis. I had swelling on the outer side of my ankle beneath the ankle bone and even slightly up my leg when it was at its worst. A podiatrist had a taping solution (for 2 weeks) that took the weight and work off of the peroneal tendons, which helped a great deal. Physical therapy also seems to be helping (didn't start that until the pain was minimal). I do ankle strengthening exercises and use an IFC unit for pain.
