many people, myself included, run many marathons per year. I once ran 7 marathons in 11 weeks, with the fastest one being the 6th.
However, recovery is a personal issue. I am in favor of light running the day after the marathon (breaks up lactic acid) and many hot-tub baths with light stretching.
I am not a world class runner. That stretch of marathons were in the 3:20's to the 3:30's. The last was in Hawaii during a heat wave, and was 4:50 !!! (Personal worst!)
Somehow competitive people can never do a marathon as a long-run, or as prep for the next one. As soon as you put on a number, you feel the need to go fast,
decide for yourself. Depends on your ability to recover physically and mentally. Early in my marathon career, I did one per month in the spring and fall with winter and summer off. Later I added more, and did them coser together.
Happy trails,'
