Patty, I've been using HRM's for about 7 years. The normal formulae don't work for everyone. The more you use your HRM the better you get to understand its correlation with your own body. If you have microsoft excel I can e-mail you a very simple spreadsheet which uses two different methods of calculating heart rate zones, using your resting and maximum heart rates. I've found the "working heart rate" method works best for me and is extremely accurate.
