Not sure if you are aware of how much this post comes across as sour grapes but is surely does.
If you tire of reading about Chuck Engle, you can either: 1. Go beat him in a race or 2. Don't read about him. (rumor has it the internet has a lot of things to look at)
It's really that simple.
By all other accounts it is rather pathetic how your post decries a person doing what they obviously enjoy doing (running); while they also raise awareness for St. Jude Children's Hospital (something you said he doesn't do). Please tell me, which part of that is bad: the enjoying yourself part or the St. Jude's part?
So, marathonguide reports more about him then you want them to. So his times are not world records and he is not running the most challenging courses (talent-wise&). He still is running a *fast* marathon EVERY single week! And is it his fault what is written about him? Hardly.
You say he could probably make the trials if he focused. Maybe he doesn't want to make the trials. Perhaps that is not his goal regardless of the fact that he is a "former three time All-American". He could very well want to do something different.
The fact remains, I don't know his motivation and neither do you. I do, however, know the difficulty of planning many races in one year and sometimes you are just happy a race exists on the day you need it to, even if it is in Paducah, Kentucky and only 87 people show up.
So, Chuck might not read this but others listening to your acerbic tone undoubtedly will and could come to the same conclusion I did: What are you whining about?
