Hockey players are generally NOT good long distance runners because they are used to 30 seconds to 45 seconds of intense effort, followed by a benching spell the lenght of which depends on the success of the previous outing (that, of course, supposes that the coach is actually following the game, which has not happened in Boston before or after Pat Burns).
Bob Gainey qualified for Boston by running the Dallas White Rock Marathon (3:24). He ran Boston in 3:34.
By the way, Ed Belfour is a triathlete...
