My son used his recommendations for intervals, repeats, etc. based on JD calculations and dropped his mile time from 5:40 to just under 5:20 this year...he's 14 and will be in the 8th grade next year. His program takes a little computation and coordination, but it gives you a method/times for training runs that will not hurt you, because they are based on past performance. As you improve you can adjust time/distance figures to match where you are in your training program. It's working for my son....
