I have been following the Daniels methods for my first 2 and only marathons. Chicago '99 and Fox Cites in '00. I have found great sucess in his program. I have run 2:31 and 2:32 and close to even 1/2 splits on both. Why no bonking. The MP run or marathon pace run. The Daniels plan teaches us to go long at MP. So I get into a half or marathon and go at marathon pace. I do not race these races, but go in on high mileage and tired legs. In '99, I did twin cities as a long Mp run of 24 miles with 18 at Mp. 3 weeks later I did Chicago on fresh legs and felt confident and sure of myself the whole way, even though it was my first marathon. Good luck to all in this program. Off to Fox Cities this year to test it again.
