I have a similar type of problem with my foot, but never had a single incident to "blame" it on. I'm pretty sure that mine is peroneal tendonitis. It hurts when i invert my ankle like I have an ankle sprain, but when I run on it, it feels like the lateral side around the front of the heel is swelling up. After a few miles it would become too painful to run. What I found that alleviates the pain almost completely is heel cups (I actually had to put two in the same shoe). With the heel cups in, it takes some of the stress off of it and I can run pain free. They've been a savior. Anyway, if yours might possibly be the same thing, the heel cups would help, if its a stress fracture, they wouldn't help. Hopefully that could at least help diagnose the problem. One other thing, if you're wearing heel cups, make sure to stretch your calf well when you can so that it doesn't get accustomed to the shortened length. Good luck!
