Should I Bow out of the Napa Valley Marathon?

Hello Everyone,

I am in my final month of training for the Napa Valley Marathon (this March 5).

Up until three weeks ago, I was running 40+ miles/week and felt as if I was ready to go.

Then, I race a half marathon at a fairly high speed and on the downhill of a the race, I aggravated my lower back. I thought it was just aches associated with running.

My training following this run was still going well and then, 5 days later, after running 18 miles, I developed a sharp pain in the left lower back region. For lack of a better description, I felt like I had dislocated my butt from my spine and legs. I thought it was sciattica and rested it and took tylenol. I tried to do a short run and after two miles, I had to walk the rest of a 4 mile short run.

This weekend, I rested and took more tylenol.

Despite the rest, if I put any weight on my left foot, the back area, mainly the back lower left ribs, lower left butt region and lower back in general all feel aggravated.

I'll be seeing a doctor in a few days.

Question to all of you: As you can imagine, I am crushed that I got injured so close to running my first marathon. Does this sound like I'm gonna have to bow out of this one?

Has anyone had similar symptoms as I've described? If so, what was the recovery period?

Any tips suggestions are appreciated.
