North, I wouldn't do the full loop at 5 am, but by dawn it ought to be completely safe. This is an asphalt-paved four-lane road we're talking about which is almost always populated with runners, bikers, in-line skaters, etc. And the NYRRC is indeed on 89th Street between 5th Avenue and Park Avenue, just a stone's throw from the East Side gate at 90th Street. I'd guess they do have locker facilities, but I'd call and check first. Or, you could always cab it to the park and back. Of course, this assumes your travel plans aren't disrupted by today's horrible events ...
