wow Lori I feel like we are having the same issue...i also have struggled for a couple years with amennorhea...i am a runner and LOVE to run! but am always feeling guilty when I wonder if stopping my runs would help to get my menstrual cycle back. I prefer to use natural healing and do not want to have to take the pill, not to mention the side effects. however, I have tried it, just to find out if i was still ovulating at least, and I did get a period. but then when i stopped the pill, my period went away again. so frustrating! I have increased calorie intake as recommended, and upped my weight from 130 to 145, and still i don't get the period without the pill. i feel gross carrying the extra wieght, as it doesn't seem to distribute but instead just goes to my tummy. i would love to gain some more muscle but what runner wants a tummy to carry around? so, the lack of period is a constant concern for me, and i feel like i have tried every alternative therapy out there. its nice to hear about others who are in the same boat, but also hard to not have any helpful suggestions. I take a flax oil supplement as the omega fatty acids are supposed to be great for regulating women's menstrual cycles, not to mention they are amazing for building brain tissue, lubricating those sore running joints, and helping to balance mood swings. just an idea. if you have any suggestions of things you have tried, I would love to hear any advice from you ladies! sorry i can't be more help, but i can sure sympathize.
