I love running, but I'm a big guy. Not fat, just big and tall. And I completely understand your complaint, albeit from the other side of the table. Seldom does a race offer the XXL that I need, and, like the smalls that you describe, frequently the XLs that are offered are out. I too don't understand how this can even become and issue, especially when, as you pointed out, many of these races require registration far in advance.
And along the same line, if I sometimes have to pay extra for a XXL (because of the extra material involved, I guess), why shouldn't you get the benefit of being able to pay less for a small. After all, doesn't that involve less material.
