A 3:40 marathon for soemone who runs 10k under 40 is not an ambitious plan but I have to agree with Syracuse Charger: 6 weeks does seem short...
A lot depends on so many factors (shape and all, and I guess you won't be looking for too long a taper after 6 weeks of training!) but can't you make it easier on yourself and find a marathon that will be run at least one month later?
