I can't remember what they're called (Yassos ?) but the best appraisal of probable marathon result that I have found (given appropraite training and appropriate conditions) comes from tranferring the times you clock (in minutes) during your 800m intervals into time (in hours) for your marathon.
For example, if your 800s are run in 3 minutes 15 seconds, you can expect your marathon to be run in 3 hours 15 minutes.
So far this method has not failed me.
