I am getting ready for Honolulu MArathon in two weeks. I have had bronchitus for almost a month and I am on my third round of antibotics. Over a week ago I coughed so hard while I was doing a pace run that I actually broke my 9th and 10th ribs on the right side (I did not know that at the time). I thought I pulled a muscle in my abs. The pain was really bad I could not run for a couple of days. On saturday the day before my 20 miler I found some hydro codiene in our medicine cabinet. That and an ace bandage was the only way I survived the 20 miler. I went to the doctor the next day. HE took a x-ray and told why I had this major rib pain(the two broken ribs). He told me not to run for 4 weeks. I told him about the marathon he said no way. I did run the 20 miler with broken ribs I know I can do the marathon well I hope to. I spent the last 4 months training hoping to qualify for boston. The pain is getting better I did a 12 miler yesterday. I know I am not healed but has anyone know of anyone able to run with broken ribs. I will need to be on Aleve and Hydro Codeine to make it. I was even thinking of getting a nerve block. I am seeing a sports doctor tommorow. Please let me know of any advice!!!
