I'm getting a little overwhelmed with everything I'm reading. Some people are saying run 60 miles a week. I read one person that runs 100. I am confused.
My questions are:
Right now I'm running 4-5 miles 4 times a week and 10-12 miles once a week. I hope to max out at around 45-50 miles a week by November for my first marathon in December. Is that enough? Keep in mind, I'm not worried about a time at this first Marathon. I'd like to finish somewhere under 4 hours which I feel I can do.
Another question is, is it normal for my legs to give out before my lungs do. It seems like when I run my hips get soar, my calves start to tighten up and my feet start to hurt way before my cardiovascular seems to wear out. Am I not pushing hard enough? Should I keep going until my wind starts to give out?
When I finish running, about 5 minutes later I feel pretty good. My legs are tight, but I am breathing fairly normal.... is that standard?
I have run hundreds of 5 and10Ks and I'm in pretty good shape, but this distance is new to me. Sorry for all the questions, but I don't want to travel 1,000 miles in December and then not be able to complete the race because I didn't train hard enough.
