I am the Arthritis Foundation's Coach for the New England Joints in Motion marathon teams..... Many of my participants are first time marathoners. Your experiences with not being winded, but being sore are entirely normal. I have been training for a marathon on October 7, and have experienced all the same things....and I am a fairly advanced runner.... As for your time frame.... Think injury prevention... If over 12 miles is a bit of a stretch for you, you want to work up to the 20 miler at a fairly slow pace... You shouldn't increase your mileage any more than 10 percent per week...Don't overdo it, because injuries can be detrimental to otherwise successful training. anyhow, good luck.
