Your number pretty much tally with the one i dug out!

Some would say that paying the runners trip is just an incentive for the runner to raise the required fund, not much different from paying commission to a salesperson, that the 50odd % that make it to the charity wouldnt be there if the runner hadnt solicited donations. The difference of course is that the donor doesnt get anything in return for his donation.

I always wonder why people decide to sponsor a runner instead of donating directly to the charity in question. Is it just a way for the charity to attract attention? whats the difference between "hi, i am going to run a 'thon for charity X would youlike to sponsor me" and " hi I represent charity X, would you like to donate to our cause?"
