I dont think i am misquoting the author: the "runners benefits" come on top of expenses and management cost hence the conclusion that 56% of your donation goes to the programes that are the reason of being for the charity.
how much of its budget the charity spends on worthy programes is different from how much of your donation actually makes it to the charity.
from the article: "Look at it another way. For every dollar a person donates for a TnT runner, it breaks down like this.
Runner Benefits 25.4% Research 18.8% Patient and community services 20.1% Public Health Education 13.7% Professional Education 3.5% LLS Management 5.1% Fundraising 13.3%
Or to put it yet another way, for every dollar donated to TnT only 56 cents goes to program services.
The situation was similar last year. In 2001, the direct donor costs were 25.0%."
